Led by a solid first round from sophomore Juhee Lee (Manhattan, Ore.) that has her just one stroke out of the tournament lead, the Seattle University women’s golf team is tied for second place after Monday’s first round of the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational at Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Lee shot one-over-par 74 to end the day in fourth place, one shot behind a three-way tie for first place that features Alex Phillips and Jamie Corr of Cal Poly as well as Annie Freman of Santa Clara. Lee shot one-under-par on the par-five holes and carded five birdies, tied for most among the 68-player field.

Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) collected 12 pars during her round of 77 (+4), finishing the day in a tie for 12th place, while Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) shot 82 (+9) to find herself in a tie for 36th place after 18 holes. Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) is in a tie for 42nd place after shooting 83 (+10) in the opening round, and Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) posted a first-round score of 87 (+14) to end the first day in a tie for 60th place.

Seattle University combined for a first-round score of 316 (+24), tied with Sonoma State and UC Riverside for second place in the team standings, six strokes behind host school Cal Poly. The Redhawks combined for eight birdies, tied with the Cal Poly “B” team for most in the tournament after 18 holes.

The second and final round of the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational will commence Tuesday, Oct. 29, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Lee and Huo will start from the first hole, Addicks and Gaddie will tee off from the 18th hole, and Song will begin her round on the 17th hole.
