The final spots on the Redhawk squads for next week’s conference meet were solidified as the Seattle University cross country team competed at the Beaver Classic Friday, hosted by the Corvallis Running Project at Avery Park.
Elena Smith (Seattle, Wash.) finished third overall in the women’s six-kilometer race with a time of 22:09, while Taylor de Laveaga (Gilbert, Ariz.) crossed the finish line in 11th place overall with a mark of 22:27. The two sophomores were able to grab the final two spots within the Redhawk contingent that will compete at the league championships next weekend.
Jennifer Stolle (Seattle, Wash.) finished in 16th place with a time of 22:41, followed by Moira O’Connor Lenth (Seattle, Wash.) in 28th place in 23:25. Emily Hedberg (Phoenix, Ariz.) was the next Redhawk in 35th place in 23:45, just ahead of Amy Clawson (Mahomet, Ill.) in 37th place in 23:51 and Rebecca Lassere (Boise, Idaho) in 29th place in 23:57.
Amy Tolentino (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) crossed the finish line in 42nd place with a time of 24:09, ahead of Meghan Arigo (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) in 47th place in 24:26, Lindsay Frederick (Seattle, Wash.) in 48th place in 24:37, and Haley Kruell (Portland, Ore.) in 54th place in 24:49. As a team, the Redhawks finished in third place with 79 points.
For the men, Miles Hille (Woodinville, Wash.) finished in 38th place in 26:27, while Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.) completed the eight-kilometer course with a time of 27:01 for a 52nd place finish, enabling them to move onto next week’s WAC Championships. Conner Hayes (Mill Creek, Wash.) finished in 75th place with a time of 28:19.
“Overall, there was some really good racing today. Things are coming together as expected as we near the end of the season,” Seattle U head cross country coach Trisha Steidl said.
The Seattle University cross country team will host the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships next Saturday, Nov. 2, at Jefferson Park Golf Course. The men’s eight-kilometer race will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by the women’s five-kilometer event at 10:00 a.m.
