The Seattle University women’s golf team was one of just two teams to improve upon their first-round score, moving up into fifth place in the final standings Tuesday at the Colby Invitational, hosted by Santa Clara University at Silver Creek Valley Country Club.

For the second straight day, senior Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) shot 78 (+6) to end the tournament as Seattle U’s top finisher, ending up in a tie for 10th place with a two-round total of 156 (+12). Juhee Lee (Manhattan, Ore.) shot the Redhawks’ best round of the tournament, using a 77 (+5) to move into a tie for 12th place at 157 (+13).

Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) also finished in a tie for 12th place after a second-round 78 (+6) put her at 157 (+13) for the week. Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) shot 79 (+7) in the second round for a 36-hole total of 160 (+16) to finish in a tie for 18th place, and Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) ended the tournament in 32nd place after shooting 84 (+12) in Tuesday’s round for a two-day total of 167 (+23).

As a team, Seattle University improved by six shots from the first round, posting a combined score of 312 (+24) to move up into fifth place with a two-round total of 630 (+54). Santa Clara roared back from a nine-shot deficit at the start of the day, posting a score of 303 (+15) to win the tournament with a cumulative total of 615 (+39), one shot ahead of first-round leader Boise State. The host school also produced the top two golfers, as Annie Freman defeated Sadie Strain on the second playoff hole to win the individual title.

The Seattle University women’s golf team will wrap up the fall schedule by returning to California for the Lady Mustang Invitational next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28-29, hosted by Cal Poly at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif.
