Seattle University women’s basketball senior Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) has been named to the College Sports Madness High-Major Preseason All-American Third Team.

"It is an honor to have Kacie Sowell recognized as a Preseason All-American,” said head coach Joan Bonvicini. “She loves and respects the game of basketball and is consistently working towards being a leader for our team on and off the court."

Sowell finished the 2012-13 season as Western Athletic Conference player of the year, also named Preseason WAC Player of the Year for 2013-14, as voted upon by both media and the league’s nine head coaches. College Sports Madness also recently named Sowell Preseason WAC Player of the Year.

Sowell was named First Team All-Conference as well as to the WAC All-Tournament team in 2012-13. On Mar. 13, 2013, she became just the 12th player in program history to pass the 1000 career point mark, also passing the 500 career rebound mark on Dec. 1, 2012. Over her career, she averages 11.4 points per game with one year remaining, leading the Redhawks with 16.4 points per game in 2012-13.

The Redhawks are set to open the 2013-14 season with an exhibition vs. Central Washington on Saturday, Nov. 2 and will begin the regular season vs. Pepperdine on Friday, Nov. 8. As part of the evening’s festivities, the team will raise their WAC Regular Season Champions banner above their home court at the Connolly Center.
