Hill assisted Stephanie Verdoia’s (Salt Lake City, Utah) second goal of the match in the team’s 5-0 shutout at Grand Canyon on Oct. 11, also anchoring the SU defense that allowed only one shot on goal in the win. She also has been a key starter for the Redhawk backline which has recorded six straight shutouts.
To date this season, Hill has recorded three assists, starting all 13 matches thus far for the Redhawks.
“Mary has been playing really well recently,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “She was a huge factor in our win this past weekend and she is starting to really get involved in our attack, which helped change the game for us. She is a very hard-working, technical player who is playing great at an important time in the season for us.”
After four weekend of conference play, Seattle U remains on top of league standings with a 6-0-0 WAC record. The Redhawks have now recorded six straight shutouts, seven straight wins, and have scored 22 straight unanswered goals dating back to Sept. 20.
SU (9-2-2, 6-0-0 WAC) returns home for two games on the weekend, including their first ever match “under the lights” at Championship Field. They are set to host Utah Valley on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m., directly before SU’s Midnight Madness, which will take place at the Connolly Center across the street. The Redhawks host Bakersfield on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 12 noon to close out the weekend.
New Mexico State’s Jannae Cambra was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring each of the Aggies’ three goals over the weekend.
