After helping the Seattle University volleyball team defeat Idaho last Friday, freshman outside hitter Iris Ivanis (Pozega, Croatia) has been named the Western Athletic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, announced Monday by the conference office.

Ivanis collected 21 kills, a season high for any Redhawk player in a single match, as Seattle U pulled out a 3-1 victory over the Idaho Vandals at the Connolly Center (25-12, 25-21, 18-25, 25-20). She also posted a .385 hitting percentage and earned five defensive digs, an assist, a service ace, and a solo block.

After collecting three kills in the opening set, Ivanis picked up her offense, going 5-for-8 without an error in the second set as the Redhawks held off a Vandal rally to take a 2-0 match lead. After leading the Redhawks with seven kills in the third set, she earned six kills in the fourth set, half of those kills coming during Seattle U’s 10-0 run that allowed the Redhawks to come from behind and clinch the match.

The .385 hitting percentage was Ivanis’s highest in a WAC match and her third-highest of the season overall. She moved into the lead for kills in WAC-only matches, improving her average to 3.71 kills per set. She continues to lead the Redhawks with 201 kills and 21 service aces, plus she is third on the squad with 114 defensive digs.

"Iris has developed quickly as an offensive force.  She has adapted to our system and brings great passion to the court,” Seattle U head volleyball coach James Finley said.

Seattle University (7-14, 4-2 WAC) continues its four-match homestand tonight against Grand Canyon starting at 7 p.m. at the Connolly Center. Live stats and live video for the match will be available on GoSeattleU.com.
