Seattle University men’s soccer senior goalkeeper Jake Feener (Rocklin, Calif.) has been named the Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6. As this is the first season of men’s soccer’s return to the WAC, this is the team’s first ever honor in their first weekend of league competition.

“This award is terrific for Jake and well-deserved,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “He has faced a tremendous amount of shots this season and has kept us in so many games. I’m very pleased for him and the defense to have gotten a shutout last weekend because he’s been outstanding all season long.”

In the team’s lone game over the weekend, Feener led the defense in the team’s 4-0 shutout at San Jose State, recording eight saves in 90 minutes of play. This was Feener’s seventh career shutout and marked the sixth time this season he has recorded eight or more saves. To date this season, he continues to lead the nation in total saves (74), ranking second in saves per game (7.4).

Houston Baptist’s Patrick Toh was named Offensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high three points at Kansas City and assisting the game-winner versus Oral Roberts.

After one weekend of conference play, Seattle U is tied for first in the WAC West standings with UNLV.

The Redhawks are set to host three games in six days, starting with No. 3 Washington on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in the team’s first ever home game “under the lights”. They remain at home to host UNLV on Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. and Bakersfield on Oct. 13 at 1 p.m. in league competition.

The nominees for each position are as follows:

Other Offensive Nominees: Miguel Gonzalez (Seattle U)
