Three new members of the Seattle University swim program have been named Scholastic All-Americans for excelling both in the classroom and in the pool during their senior year of high school, announced Monday by USA Swimming.
Alec Barnard (Everett, Wash.), Connor Webb (Hood River, Ore.), and Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.) were among the 1,356 individuals across the country recognized for their achievements in academics in swimming. In order to be eligible for Scholastic All-America honors, swimmers must have completed 10th, 11th, or 12th grades, must be a registered member of USA Swimming, must have had a GPA at 3.5 or higher, and must meet a time standard set by USA Swimming.
Barnard picked up his second Scholastic All-America award as a member of the Bellevue Club Swim Team. Webb, a member of the Hood River Swim Team, is also a two-time Scholastic All-American after earning a 4.0 GPA. Wittenauer-Lee was named a Scholastic All-American for the first time while participating in the Tualatin Hills Swim Club.
The Seattle University swim team begins practice this week for the 2013-14 season, which sees both the men’s and women’s squads competing within the Western Athletic Conference. The WAC Swimming and Diving Championships will take place Feb. 26 to March 1 at the Palo Alto Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas.
