Seattle University head women’s basketball coach Joan Bonvicini has announced the hiring of assistant women’s basketball coach Derek Liebert. Liebert brings experience working with the Redhawks during the 2012-13 season as well as working with the Seattle Storm this season.   “We’re very pleased to announce the hiring of Derek Liebert as assistant women’s basketball coach,” said Bonvicini. “He previously worked with our staff and our program as an intern and did a fabulous job before leaving to work with the Seattle Storm. Derek is a very hard worker, an excellent project manager, and is excellent with video and breakdown of film. He will be working a lot with recruiting, viewing and evaluating prospects, and talking with their coaches. Additionally, he will be doing some work on the floor and position work, as well as assisting with our basketball camps.”   Liebert most recently served as Basketball Operations Manager with the Seattle Storm this season. His duties included coordinating team travel logistics, developing and maintaining the organization’s master calendar, assisting with opponent scout preparations and film development for the coaching staff, and assisting with day-to-day functional operations for players and coaches.   During his prior tenure at Seattle U as the women’s basketball graduate assistant during the 2012-13 season, Liebert’s responsibilities included video coordination, serving as visiting team liaison, and creating the women’s basketball quarterly newsletter.   Liebert received his Masters of Education in Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in June 2013. He is also a 2012 graduate of Xavier University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, where he served as program manager for the Xavier women’s basketball team.   “I am extremely excited to rejoin the Seattle University women’s basketball program,” said Liebert. “I look forward to the opportunity to learn and grow as a coach within the culture created by Coach Joan Bonvicini and her assistant coaches. The support of the women’s basketball program from the university and athletic department is a direct result of the passion, vision, and dedication of Coach Bonvicini, her staff, and players. They have proven their growth over the last four years and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
