OVER THE MOUNTAINS: After back-to-back matches in Seattle, the Redhawk volleyball team hits the road this weekend, traveling by bus to Spokane for the Gonzaga Invitational. Seattle U will face Arizona State Friday afternoon, followed by matches against the host Bulldogs and UNLV Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks are looking to get back on the winning track as they enter the meat of a stretch of 11 consecutive matches away from their home court.

WILDCAT WEEKEND: Seattle U opened the 2013 season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Big 12 school Texas Tech, the first victory over a major conference opponent since the Redhawks moved up to Division I status. In her first match at Seattle U, Martina Samadan led the Redhawks with 12 kills, while Allison Farley finished with nine kills and four total blocks. Seattle U could not maintain the momentum, losing to Weber State, 3-0. The next day, Seattle U totally controlled its match against UC Riverside, cruising to a 3-0 victory. The Redhawks set a new school record for highest hitting percentage in a single match, hitting .411 over the three sets. Samadan hit .583 in the contest as she collected 15 kills and three block assists, while Iris Ivanis earned 11 kills, two service aces, and five digs. Freshman setter Kerry Lane accumulated 34 assists, four kills, and five digs. Samadan and Ivanis were named to the All-Tournament Team.

QUICK FACT: For the first time in the modern era of the volleyball program (since 1999), Seattle U has played the minimum three sets in its first five matches of the year.
