“We are so excited for Melissa and the opportunities she’s had this season,” said Seattle U head coach Julie Woodward. “She is intelligent, athletic, and really has a love and passion for the game. We are extremely proud of her and it’s so cool to see Seattle U represented on the international stage.”
Busque was named to both the W-League All-Western Conference team as well as the W-League All-Star team. Being named to the All-Star team puts her among the elite as one of the top three midfielders in the entire league.
"I am so glad Mel came to play at Seattle U for her last year of eligibility and that I was able to play with her for a season," said former teammate Stephanie Verdoia. "She brought a new dimension to the mental and physical aspect of Seattle U soccer. Her passion and competitiveness has pushed her to be an incredible player and a dependable teammate. She is aggressive, fast, and creative, which makes her a very dangerous offensive player. She is always making things happen. I'm proud of everything she has accomplished and I know she has a bright future ahead of her."
With the Sounders Women this season, she recorded three goals and one assist during the W-League regular season, recording 855 minutes, second amongst Sounders field players, despite missing W-League games while playing with the Canadian National Team.
With the CNT, Busque started in an international exhibition versus Germany, playing 88 minutes on June 19 in Paderborn, Germany.
“There are a lot of great players in this league and it’s not always easy to stand out,” said Busque. “I’m just glad I was able to make an impact that was recognized by other coaches.”
