James Finley, head coach of the Seattle University volleyball team, has announced that two more student-athletes have committed to attending the university and joining the Redhawk volleyball program starting in the 2013-14 academic year.

Matea Mamic (Split, Croatia) is an outside hitter who has played in three consecutive European Cups for Zok Split 1700. She also represented Croatia in the 2011 CEV Youth Volleyball European Championship and the 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship.

“Matea is a strong six-rotation outside hitter. In addition to Matea's great offensive ability, she brings solid ball control to our team. Matea is a strong academic student who will excel in the classroom and be a force on the court,” Finley said.

Andi Vordermann (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) is transferring to Seattle U from Cal State San Marcos, where as a freshman she finished second on the team in kills (254), hitting percentage (.255), and blocks (67). The 6’0” outside hitter helped the Cougars to a 30-15 overall record, the Association of Independent Institutions Conference Tournament title, and a spot in the NAIA National Volleyball Tournament.

“Andi will be a sophomore who brings great athleticism and a fast arm to our offense.  She has a good understanding of the game and a strong work ethic,” said Finley. “Andi will give us depth at the pins and provide a big block at the net. We are happy to have Andi become a part of our future."

The Seattle University volleyball team will report to campus August 8 for the start of preseason in preparation for the season opener against Texas Tech at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Weber State in Ogden, Utah, Friday, Aug. 30. The regular season home opener for the Redhawks will take place Labor Day against Eastern Washington at the Connolly Center Monday, Sept. 2, starting at 6 p.m.
