The Seattle University cross country team will become the first Redhawk program to host a Western Athletic Conference championship event, as the 2013 WAC Cross Country Championships will be held at Jefferson Park Golf Course, part of the 2013 competition schedule released by the cross country coaching staff.
The team is scheduled to report to campus Thursday, Aug. 15, with its first official practice taking place the next day. The first competition of the 2013 campaign takes place two weeks later with the UW/SU Open Friday, Aug. 30, at Magnuson Park in Seattle.
The Redhawks continue to stay close to home for their next meet, the Sundodger Invitational hosted by the University of Washington at Lincoln Park in West Seattle Saturday, Sept. 14. The month of October begins for Seattle U with the Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by the University of Oregon at Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ore., Saturday, Oct. 5.
The season really kicks into gear with the annual Emerald City Open at Lower Woodland Park Saturday, Oct. 19, followed by the Beaver Classic at Avery Park in Corvallis, Ore., currently set for Saturday, Oct. 26. The results of those two meets will determine the Redhawk competitors for the WAC Cross Country Championships, hosted by Seattle U at Jefferson Park Golf Course the morning of Saturday, Nov. 2.
The season concludes with the NCAA West Regional, this year hosted by Sacramento State at Haggin Oaks Golf Club in Sacramento, Calif., Friday, Nov. 15. Anybody who qualifies through the always-tough West region will head to Terre Haute, Ind., for the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Seattle University men’s cross country team is coming off a third place finish at last year’s WAC Championships, while the women’s squad finished sixth at the conference meet. All nine full members of the WAC in 2013-14 will field a women’s cross country team, and every school but CSU Bakersfield is expected to send a men’s squad to the conference championships.
