Seattle University men’s soccer head coach Pete Fewing has announced the squad’s 2013 schedule, which will mark their first season in the Western Athletic Conference after four seasons in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF). Along with the addition of men’s swimming and diving, 19 of Seattle U’s 20 varsity sports are now sponsored by the WAC, as women’s rowing remains independent.

“Our 2013 schedule is very demanding and we look forward to each game,” said Fewing. “We love to travel as a team, so road games are a tremendous opportunity for our men. I am pleased we have a full [slate of] 20 [regular season] games, as it will provide us the greatest opportunity to improve the squad. We cannot wait to get started.”

The team will open up the season with six straight games on the road, first making a visit to the east coast to face University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) on Aug. 30 and Delaware on Sept. 1. They will return home for two games in the Golden State, squaring up against UC Davis on Sept. 6 and Sacramento State on Sept. 8 before moving north for two matches in Oregon. The Redhawks are set to play Oregon State on Sept. 13 and Portland on Sept. 15.

Seattle U will make their home debut hosting a pair of southeastern schools, with Georgia State on Sept. 20 and Florida Gulf Coast on Sept. 22. SU will close out the non-conference season in the state of Washington with a Sept. 28 contest at Gonzaga while playing host to Washington on Oct. 8.

The Redhawks will face several teams as full or partial members of the WAC this season which they previously faced as fellow members of the MPSF. CSU Bakersfield joins the WAC as a full member while San Jose State, UNLV, Air Force, and Houston Baptist will become affiliate members for men’s soccer. UMKC and Grand Canyon are also now full members of the WAC, but Grand Canyon will not be eligible for postseason play as they are in the NCAA reclassification process.

Oct. 5 will mark the squad’s first ever WAC game, facing San Jose State at Spartan Soccer Field and they will host their first WAC contest on Oct. 11 vs. UNLV. They will close out the weekend hosting WAC-newcomer CSU Bakersfield (CSUB) on Oct. 13. SU will host three other WAC contests, including Air Force on Oct. 25, Grand Canyon on Oct. 27, and San Jose State on Nov. 9, which will serve as Senior Day.

Seattle U is also set to make WAC road trips to UNLV on Oct. 18, CSUB on Oct. 20, Houston Baptist on Nov. 1, and University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) on Nov. 3.

The Redhawks will face three teams during the regular season who appeared in the 2012 NCAA Division I tournament including Air Force and Washington, who faced in the first round. Washington made it to the second round before falling to eventual semifinalist Creighton, 4-2. UMBC also advanced to the second round with a win over Old Dominion before falling to North Carolina.

Following the regular season, the Western Athletic Conference tournament will take place on November 14, 15, and 17 in Colorado Springs, Colo. with the winner advancing to the NCAA Tournament. All seven eligible teams (all but Grand Canyon) will advance to the conference tournament.

Season tickets are available now by calling (206) 398-GOSU or on GoSeattleU.com for $75 apiece. Single game tickets are also available at the Championship Field gate starting 60 minutes prior to kickoff.

The Redhawk Sports Pass is also available through the Redhawk Ticket Office for $75, which will gain fans admission to all men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball, volleyball, and baseball home games in 2013-14.
