Craig Nisgor, head coach of the Seattle University women’s swim team, has announced the group of student-athletes who have committed to attend the University and join the Redhawk swim program starting in the 2013-14 academic year.

“We are very excited about our incoming class of women for next year. It is an extremely talented group and we know that they will make an immediate impact in every aspect of our training and our meets. Representing eight different states, this group has already done a great job in both the classroom and pool,” Nisgor said.

Carlee Bock (Bellingham, Wash.) was a three-year varsity letterwinner at Squalicum High School, helping the Storm win two 2A state titles. A three-time individual 2A state champion, she never lost a 100 backstroke race during her entire high school career. A member of the Bellingham Bay Swim Team since 2002, Bock competed at the NCSA Junior Nationals in 2011.

Emma Foster (Clancy, Mont.) competed on the varsity swim team at Helena High School for four years, earning both All-State and Academic All-State recognition every year. She finished second in the 500 freestyle at the state championships three straight seasons and picked up the Best Teammate Award from her teammates in 2012. A member of the Helena Lions Swim Team since 2002, she was named Montana Swimming Sportswoman of the Year in 2012.

Kristin Hoffman (Mercer Island, Wash.) participated on the varsity swim team for four years and on the varsity water polo team for three seasons at Mercer Island High School. She was a member of the state champion 400 freestyle relay team as well as district champion in the 100 freestyle. Hoffmann has been a member of the Chinook Aquatic Club since 2009.

Kaitlyn Overstreet (Cottonwood Heights, Utah) was a four-year member of the varsity swim team at Brighton High School, including a term as team captain during her senior season. She was a two-time state champion in the 100 butterfly as well as a state champion in the 100 backstroke. A member of the Cottonwood Heights Aquatics Team for 10 years, she set the team record in the 200 butterfly in 2007.

Annika Perry (Reno, Nev.) has been a top finisher in the region and in the state in both the 100 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley. At Galena High School, she is a part of the school record quartet in the 200 medley relay, plus she has been a section leader in the school drumline for three years. Perry has been a part of Reno Aquatic Club for nine years and served as a group captain in 2009.

Sidney Pinger (Tualatin, Ore.) helped the West Linn High School 200 medley relay team win this year’s state championship, setting a district record in the process. Originally from Germany, Pinger competed in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle at the Oregon state championships in February. Her father Mark was a member of the German national swim team and won bronze medals in the 200 freestyle relay in both 1992 and 1996.

Rachel Rodriguez (Round Rock, Texas) was a three-time team MVP for the Round Rock High School Dragons, swimming in both freestyle and butterfly events. A member of the National Honor Society, Rodriguez has accumulated the most community service hours among the members of the senior class. At the club level, she has competed for Texas Gold Swimming for eight years.

Katie Rottman (Phoenix, Ariz.) was a four-year letterwinner in swimming at Xavier Prep. She received the Coach’s Award in 2012 and was also involved within the school as a member of the President’s Council, the Captain’s Council, and the Key Club. She has also participated with the Arizona Gold Swim Club for two years.

Kate Sabourin (Santa Rosa, Calif.) helped Montgomery High School finish undefeated in dual meets during the 2012 season. She is a three-time First Team All-Empire honoree and won the Golden Hammer Award in her freshman season. A member of the Neptune Swimming Club, Sabourin finished fifth in the 400 individual medley at the 2013 American Short Course Championships.

“Six of these women have already done times that would rank in the all-time top five here at Seattle U. All of them bring a great work ethic and attitudes, and I am very happy to have all of them joining us here next year. It is exciting that we have individuals who can swim, and are very good at, all of the events and distances that we compete at,” added Nisgor.

These nine student-athletes will join Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.), a November signee, as newcomers to the Redhawk swim program. The Seattle University women’s swim team enters its second season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference and is scheduled to return to the Palo Alto College Natatorium in San Antonio, Texas, for the 2014 WAC Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 26-March 1, 2014.
