The Seattle Sounders Women have announced the signing of Melissa Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec, Canada), who competed for the Seattle University women’s soccer team in 2012.

“We are excited for Melissa and her opportunity to play with the Sounders,” said Seattle U women’s soccer head coach Julie Woodward. “She had such an impressive senior season for us and is one of the most complete players I have coached. She is intelligent, athletic, talented, and really has a love and passion for the game. I am confident she will make great contributions to the organization. We are extremely proud of her and can’t wait to cheer her on.”

The announcement comes following her impressive performance despite the team’s 1-0 loss to Oregon State on Apr. 14, during which she attempted a bicycle attempt at goal. Her “technical ability, vision on the dribble to see that final pass, and selfishness in the box are qualities you just don’t see that much among female players,” said Sounders Women assistant coach Zahra Lechak.

With the Redhawks, Busque recorded four goals and four assists totaling 12 points in 2012, second highest on the squad. Prior to Seattle University, she spent three years at the University of Connecticut where she recorded 10 goals and 14 assists.

Busque has previous W-League experience, as she played with the Ottawa Fury, the defending W-League champions, from 2009-2012. While with the team, she also participated in three division titles, two conference championships, two final four appearances, and played in two championship matches.

Busque will face her former teammates as the Redhawks cap off the spring season with a match at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila on Friday, Apr. 26 at 7 p.m. Single match tickets for the contest are currently on sale at www.SoundersWomen.com and can be purchased at the gate on game day.
