Seattle U Women’s Rowing Wins Big at Cascade Sprints
In their first official race of the spring season, two of three boats entered by Seattle University women’s rowing won their respective race at Cascade Sprints on American Lake. Each of the three boats also advanced to their respective finals races and all three won the finals races. Teams also competing in the day’s races, hosted by the University of Puget Sound, include Pacific Lutheran, Lewis & Clark, Willamette, Western Washington, Humboldt St., UC San Diego, Seattle Pacific, Washington State, Portland State, and Oregon.
“We surprised a few people today,” said interim head coach Jennifer Park. “It was a great way to start the season. The girls had some awesome races and I’m very proud of all of them.”
The Redhawks raced two V4 (varsity four) boats, each in a separate race, and one N8 (novice eight) boat, with the V4 (A) and the N8 boats winning their first races on the morning. The V4 (B) boat placed third behind Western Washington’s V4 (B) boat and Humbolt State’s V4 (B) boat.
All three placed well enough in the first races of the day to advance to the day’s finals. All three boats won their respective finals race to cap off a successful first race of the spring season.
The Redhawks will continue the spring season at the Husky Open next Saturday, Apr. 6 on Washington’s home course, the Montlake Cut. Following the morning’s races, at 12 p.m. a special ceremony will be held at the Seattle Rowing Center to dedicate Seattle U rowing’s newest racing shell. Stu Rolfe, a trustee at Seattle University, graciously donated the money to purchase the new shell. More information about
the ceremony will soon be announced on www.GoSeattleU.com.
