This Weekend’s Promotions: Saturday is Little League Day, as all local little leaguers and their families are invited to the game. The softball team will be doing postgame autographs at the conclusion of the contest and will be giving out posters. Washington Dairy Farmers will be giving out free cartons of milk to all kids in attendance.
Scouting Texas State: Picked to finish first in the league in the WAC Preseason Coaches Poll, the Bobcats are currently tied for last place in the WAC standings with Utah State (5-25, 0-3 WAC). UTSA swept Texas State last weekend to open conference play, the first time the Roadrunners had swept the Bobcats in San Marcos since 1996. Haley Lemons leads the team at the plate with a .284 average, starting all 31 games, and recording 13 runs on 27 hits as well as seven doubles, one home run, and nine RBIs. In the circle, Rayn House posts a 4.15 ERA on the season with two complete games and nine starts, striking out 55 in 82.2 innings of work. So far this season, they have topped Mississippi Valley State (twice), Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Troy, and Sacramento State, but come into this weekend on a seven-game losing streak after most recently falling at No. 9 Texas A&M, 9-1, in five innings on Mar. 26.
Last Time Out: This will be the first all-time meeting between the Redhawks and Bobcats.
UT Arlington Series (Mar. 22-23): In game one, the Redhawks trailed, 5-0, through six innings but powered back with three straight solo home runs in the top of the seventh. Bubba Morrow hit her third home run of the season with Brittney Lott and Jenny Hurst recording their first career home runs, but the comeback fell short as the Redhawks fell, 5-3. In game two on the day, the score remained 0-0 through regulation but the Mavericks drove in Taylor Zink for the winning run, 1-0, in the eighth. In game three, an explosive third inning for Seattle U made the difference as the Redhawks earned their first WAC win, 13-4, in five innings. Brianna Guerrero hit a grand slam, her first career home run, and Isabella Geronimo added two more runs with a 2RBI double. In total, SU drove in eight of their 13 runs in the third inning.
