Women's Golf Kicks off Hawaii Tournament with Two Rounds

The Seattle University women's golf team kicked off a trip to Hawaii Tuesday, playing two rounds of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course in Kanehoe, Hawaii.

Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) is the top-ranked Redhawk after two rounds, turning in consecutive rounds of 78 (+6) to kick off the tournament. She is in a tie for 38th place at 156 strokes, 12 shots above par heading into Wednesday's final round.

Right on Pearson's tail is Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) who shot 8-over-par 80 in the first round and 5-over-par 77 in the second. She has a two-round score of 157, 13 strokes above par and just one off Pearson's mark.

The other three SU players are all within two strokes of each other. Of the trio, Clare Sorensen (Roseville, Calif.) has the lowest score at 19-over-par 163 and is tied for 71st. She shot rounds of 81 (+9) and 82 (+10) on the day, and is one stroke ahead of Hawaii native Monica Keo (Honolulu, Hawaii). Keo also carded an 81 in the first round, but took 83 shots (+11) in the second to sit at 164, 20 strokes above par. She is tied for 73rd entering the final round.

Just one stroke behind Keo, Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) lost seven strokes between the first and second rounds, carding a team-low round 76, four shots above par, in the afternoon session. Beyke is currently tied for 77th with a score of 165, 21 shots over par.

As a team, the Redhawks counted 636 strokes (+60) on the day and sit in 13th place. Seventh-ranked Arizona has the team lead at 582 strokes (+6), while the Wildcats' Manon Gidali has a two-stroke lead in the individual competition at 141 strokes, three strokes under par.

The third round of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational will start at 11:00 a.m. Pacific time (8:00 a.m. local) Wednesday, March 13. The Redhawks will start on holes 12 through 14, again on the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
