The Seattle University women's golf team kicked off its spring season Saturday, playing the first of two rounds in the Red Rocks Invitational at Oakcreek Country Club in Sedona, Ariz.
The Redhawks saw consistent play throughout the lineup, with only six strokes separating the team's five players. Shooting the lowest for SU, Clare Sorensen (Roseville, Calif.) fired a 77, five strokes above par. She is tied for 26th place heading into Sunday's final round after tallying 13 pars on the round.
One stroke behind Sorensen, Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) is tied for 33rd after shooting 78 (+6) on the day, and Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) is hot on her tail after shooting 79 (+7). Beyke, playing in just her second tournament of the year, is tied for 39th.
Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) sits in a tie for 58th after carding a 10-over-par 82 during Saturday's round, and Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) rounds out the SU lineup one stroke behind Gaddie at 11-over-par 83. Quinn is tied for 70th place with one round to go.
In the team competition, Seattle U is 12th out of 21 teams after counting 316 strokes (+28) on the day. CSU Northridge is in first place by one stroke at 15-over-par 303 and Weber State's Kelsey Chugg has a one stroke lead in the individual competition at 1-under-par 71.
The Redhawks will look to move up the leaderboard during the final round Sunday, March 3. Play will begin with a 7:30 Pacific time shotgun start, again at Oakcreek Country Club.
