The Seattle University baseball team lost to the BYU Cougars, 10-0, Wednesday afternoon at Bannerwood Stadium.

BYU (5-5) scored all the runs it would need in the first inning, as Jacob Hanneman and Hayden Nielsen led off with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice bunt by Adam Law, Jaycob Brugman sent a double down the left field line, driving in both Hanneman and Nielsen to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.

Seattle U starting pitcher Skyler Genger (Kent, Wash.) settled down, retiring 15 of the next 16 BYU batters before a one-out double by Law in the sixth inning. After Law advanced to third on a groundout, Brock Whitney would drive him in with a single, ending Genger's day after 5 2/3 innings and 70 pitches, 50 of them strikes.

The Cougars broke the game open with four runs in the seventh inning, the first two coming on a home run by Brennon Anderson, followed by an RBI infield single by Law that scored Hanneman and a double to left field from Brugman that drove in Law. BYU scored three more runs in the ninth inning, two on a pinch-hit double by Cody Shepherd and the final tally on a single by Kelton Caldwell.

Seattle U's best offensive threat came in the eighth inning, as Zach Aaker (Ravensdale, Wash.) and Landon Cray (Chimacum, Wash.) led off with back-to-back singles. Aaker advanced to third on a flyout, but BYU was able to turn a double play to end the scoring chance and preserve the shutout.

Jeff Barker pitched the first six innings to earn the victory for BYU, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Law, Brugman, and Adam Isom each finished with two hits as the Cougars put together 12 hits during the game, while the Redhawks were held to five hits.
