The Seattle University women's tennis team took care of business Friday, taking down Lewis-Clark State 5-2 at the LCSC Tennis Center in Lewiston, Idaho.
The Redhawks opened the match by taking the doubles point. Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) and Kristen James (Lubbuck, Texas) once again won at No. 3 doubles, taking down Lewis-Clark State's team of Florencia Martina and Deanri Human 8-2. In No. 2 singles, Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) also won, beating the Warriors' Bryn Oliveiria and Rye Hewett 8-4.
At No. 1 doubles, Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) and Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) fell to LCSC's top pair of Dorothy Chong and Livia Blasque.
After claiming the doubles point, the Redhawks earned four more points in singles play. Weissmann claimed the biggest win on the day for Seattle U, taking down the Warriors' Oliveira 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Atop the lineup, Newman earned her fourth win in the last five matches after dispatching LCSC's Chong 6-1, 6-2.
Lucas earned her second win over Hewett of Lewis-Clark State on the day at No. 4 singles, winning the singles contest 6-1, 6-3, while Wurden won at No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-3 against the Warriors' Hewett.
Dayna Bennett (Issaquah, Wash.) saw her first collegiate dual action at No. 6 singles, a 6-0, 6-2 loss to Martina, while at No. 2 singles, Lambert hung tough in the first set against Blasque before losing in the tiebreaker 6-6(6-4), then lost the second set 6-3 to end the match.
Seattle University (3-3) takes on fellow Jesuit school Gonzaga Saturday, Feb. 16 in Spokane, Wash. That match will begin at 3:00 p.m.
