Seattle University softball (4-1) finished their final game of the weekend as they topped Weber State (0-5), 5-0, to finish the Red Desert Classic.

“Richelle hit her spots and dominated today,” said head coach Dan Powers. “Brianna (Guerrero), Bubba (Morrow), Brittney (Lott) and Isabella (Geronimo) all had big days at the plate for us. We had a great weekend, but next week is another big test for us.”

The Redhawks got on the board immediately, as Bubba Morrow (Auburn, Wash.) drove in Sarah Petosa (Federal Way, Wash.) on an RBI single to center field in the top of the first.

Both teams scoreless in the second inning, Seattle U added another run in the top of the third and two more in the top of the fourth.

In the third, Brittney Lott (Tacoma, Wash.) drove in Morrow with an RBI single to center field, much like Morrow’s first inning RBI. In the fourth, Petosa scored her second run of the day on a single to right field by Brianna Guerrero (Buena Park, Calif.). Danielle Ashcraft (Sandy, Ore.) scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Neither team was able to score in either the fifth or seventh innings, but the Redhawks added one more insurance run in the top of the sixth on a Rogin Hardy (Kirkland, Wash.) single to center field, and SU came away with the 5-0 win.

The Redhawks outhit Weber State, 11-4, and were led in runs by Petosa (2) and in hits by Guerrero and Lott (3).

In the circle, Richelle Ashburn (Post Falls, Idaho) got her second win of the season, earning the complete game shutout, walking just two and striking out two, allowing only four hits. For Weber State, Jasmine Ioane allowed four runs on seven hits while walking three and striking out four in four innings pitched. Morgan Allaband entered in relief, allowing the final run and striking out one in three innings pitched.

The Redhawks head to Las Vegas next weekend (Feb. 15-17) for the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic, as they face UNLV and Utah on Friday (1:30/6 p.m. PT), UCLA and Louisiana Monroe on Saturday (11:15 a.m./1:30 p.m. PT), and Oregon State on Sunday (9:00 a.m.).
