This Week for the Redhawks: In their first road contest in nearly a month, Seattle University women’s basketball (3-5) faced Pepperdine on the road and, despite leading at half, fell to the Waves, 70-64. On Thursday, Dec. 20, the Redhawks will play their final non-conference competition at BYU (6-4). For tickets, contact the Marriott Center Ticket Office at 1 (800) 322-BYU1(2981).
Student Incentive Program: For games during which school is in session, students in attendance will have the opportunity to win a prize worth $50 or more following the game (must be present to win). Students can enter the raffle when they pick up their free game ticket (with Student ID). At the end of the season, there will be a raffle for a grand prize, and students who have attended more games throughout the season will have a better chance to win.

The 500 Club: Kacie Sowell grabbed her 500th career rebound on Dec. 1 vs. UC Irvine with 32 seconds left in regulation. She currently has 513 in her career.
Washington Dental Service Thanksgiving Tournament: The Redhawks won their first Thanksgiving tournament, in the tournament’s third year in this format. Seattle U beat Portland, 63-61, in the semifinals and Sacred Heart, 74-70, in the championship game. Sylvia Shephard was named the Tournament MVP and Kacie Sowell was named to the All-Tournament Team. SU also made it to the championship game in the past two years, but fell to Akron, 85-74, in 2011, and Bowling Green, 71-51, in 2010.
Sylvia Shephard CSM WAC Player of the Week (Nov. 19-25): Shephard was named the College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week following her perforamance in the team’s WA Dental Service Thanksgiving Tournament semifinal and championship games. Over the weekend, she averaged 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, six assists, and three steals per game. From the field, she shot 50.0 percent, as well as 71.4 percent from the free-throw line.
Kacie Sowell WAC Player of the Week (Nov. 5-11): Kacie Sowell received the first Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week award of the 2012-13 season for her performance, a double-double (19 points, 11 rebounds), versus Pacific on Nov. 9.
Ranked Nationally (Through 12/16): As a team, Seattle U ranks second in the nation in NCAA Division I steals per game (15.4), behind Alabama. Individually, Kacie Sowell is tied for 17th in double-doubles (5), ranks 19th in field-goal percentage (57.8 percent), and is tied for 41st in points per game (18.5). Sylvia Shephard ranks fifth in steals per game (4.25).

Milestone Moment: Head coach Joan Bonvicini was honored prior to the Washington contest at KeyArena on Nov. 14, 2012, as it was her 1000th career game coached.
Scouting BYU: With a 6-4 overall record (as of Dec. 17), the SU-BYU contest will be game number three of a five game holiday homestand for the Cougars. Before the Redhawks travel to Provo, BYU hosts UC Santa Barbara on Dec. 18. BYU has outrebounded their opponents in six of ten games thus far this season, including the last four straight. Lexi Eaton leads the team averaging 15.6 ppg and Jennifer Hamson averages a double-double on the season (12.7 ppg, 10.3 rpg). Haley Steed has recorded a team-high 72 assists and 20 steals in 10 games so far. The Cougars are led by Jeff Judkins in his 12th season at the helm.
Last Time Out: In the teams’ first ever meeting, last season on Jan. 25, 2012, BYU defeated Seattle U, 69-55, at the Connolly Center. Then-No. 23 BYU was the first ranked opponent the Redhawks had hosted since beginning the NCAA DI reclassification process. Ashley Ward led all players with 18 points and Kacie Sowell notched her 10th double-double of the season (15 pts., 16 rbs.). Despite being outshot from the field, SU won the rebounding battle, 39-38.
