Sophomore Bethany Gehrke (Lynnwood, Wash.) posted a personal best time in the 500 freestyle as the 64th annual Husky Invitational, hosted by the Husky Swimming Foundation, began Friday at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.

In the morning preliminaries, Gehrke finished the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:04.55, lowering the second-best time in program history that she posted at last year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships by 7/10ths of a second. She finished with the 17th-best time in the preliminaries, missing the "B" final by 32/100ths of a second.

In the evening finals, she finished seventh in the "C" final with a time of 5:07.94, earning 23rd place overall in the event. Gehrke was the only member of the Seattle U women's swim team to compete on Friday.

The Seattle University women's swim team will be well-represented in the Saturday morning session, competing in all seven events taking place on the second day of the invitational (200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 800 freestyle relay). The preliminaries are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., with the finals set to start at 6:00 p.m.
