Women's Golf Kicks Off Final Tournament of Fall Season

The Seattle University women's golf team kicked off their final tournament of the fall season Monday, playing the first of the Lamkin Grip/Cal Poly Invitational's two rounds at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande, Calif.

Clare Sorensen (Roseville, Calif.) leads the way for the Redhawks, shooting a 4-over-par 77 during the opening round. Sorensen is in a tie for 21st place and can clinch her second-straight top 20 finish by moving up one spot during Tuesday's second and final round.

Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah), playing in her third tournament of the year, comes next for SU, carding a 7-over-par 80 in the first round. She is tied for 38th place and sits just one stroke ahead of teammate Monica Keo (Oahu, Hawaii), who shot 8-over-par 81 on the day. Keo is currently tied for 44th place.

Two SU golfers are tied for 57th as both Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) and Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) shot 10-over-par 83's on the day to round out the SU lineup.

As a team, the Redhawks are in 10th place after tallying 321 shots on the day, 29 strokes above par. Northern Arizona has the team lead at 9-over-par 301, while Spencer Heller of Sonoma State, Audra Kepler of Cal State Monterey Bay, and Savannah Vilaubi of UC Riverside all are tied for first place individually after each shooting rounds of 2-under-par-71.

The Seattle University women's golf team wraps up the 36-hole tournament Tuesday, October 30 again at Cypress Ridge Golf Club. The second round will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a shotgun start.
