The Seattle U women's golf team came out firing at Tuesday's final round of the Santa Clara Colby Invitational, shooting a collective 304 (+16) on the day en route to a fifth place finish at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose, Calif.
Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) notched her second straight top 15 finish, tying for 12th after taking 153 strokes (+9) during the two-day tournament. She carded a 4-over-par 76 on the day to finish up. Just one behind, Clare Sorensen (Roseville, Calif.) tied for 16th after a two-round total of 154, 10 strokes over par. She shot 3-over-par 75 in the final round, the Redhawks' lowest individual round of the tournament.
Two Redhawks made big improvements on their round one scores Tuesday, as Christine Cook (Spokane, Wash.) cut six strokes off her first round total, carding a 4-over-par 76 in the final round. She finished in a tie for 24th with a total of 14-over-par 158. Monica Keo (Oahu, Hawaii) shot a 5-over-par 77 Tuesday, 11 strokes better than her first round performance. She finished in a tie for 47th with a two-day total of 21-over 165.
Juhee Lee (Manhatten, Ore.) rounded out the SU roster with a 15-over-par 88 Tuesday, ending the tournament with a total of 171, 27 strokes above par and worth a tie for 59th.
In the team competition, the Redhawks moved into fifth place after counting just 304 strokes, tied for third-best team score of the final round. Seattle U finished with a total of 625 strokes, 49 shots above par, while Ball State took the team title at 29-over-par 605. Ball State's Jenna Hague won individual honors with a two-day total of 142, two strokes under par.
The SU women's golf team next competes at the Cal Poly Invitational Monday, Oct. 29 and Tuesday, Oct. 30. The tournament, taking place at Cypress Ridge Golf Club in Arroyo Grande, Calif., will be the squad's final fall season competition.
