The Redhawks host the Vandals on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 12 p.m. at Championship Field for their conference home opener.

Redhawks Host Idaho in WAC Home Opener: After opening their conference schedule on the road, Seattle University women’s soccer (6-5-1) returns home to host Idaho in their Western Athletic Conference home opener. Seattle U and Denver currently lead the WAC after week one of conference competition, as each team went 1-0-1 over last weekend. As the Redhawks are riding a four-game home winning streak and three-game overall unbeaten streak, they welcome the Vandals to Championship Field on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 12 p.m.

Pink Game: This will be the team’s annual Pink Game to benefit the Puget Sound Affiliate of Susan G. Komen. Special pink Seattle U soccer shirts will be sold at the game for $10 apiece. Fans can buy raffle tickets for great prizes including a gift certificate from Jolie Nail Spa, a gift certificate to the University Market and Deli, a Poquitos gift certificate, a pair of men’s basketball season tickets, and a pair of women’s basketball season tickets. There will also be a silent auction with items including a pink soccer ball and pink jersey, both signed by the SU women’s soccer team, as well as a signed Seattle Sounders jersey. All popcorn sales from the match will be donated to the cause. Donation jars will also be sitting throughout the Championship Field complex.

Leaders of the WAC: After seven weeks of competition, as a team, the Redhawks rank third in points (51), goals (18), goals per game (1.50), assists (15), assists per game (1.25), and current longest unbeaten streak (3 games), fourth in fewest goals allowed (14), GAA (1.12), and shutouts (4) and fifth in shots (177). Individually, Melissa Busque is tied for fourth in points (11), goals (4), points per game (0.92). Taylor Ritzman is ranked third in goals per game (0.40), tied for fourth in goals (4), and ranks fifth in points per game (0.90). Stephanie Verdoia is tied for third in game-winning goals (2) and ranks fourth in goals (4). Monique Escalera is tied for fourth in assists (4) and assists per game (0.33). Brianna Smallidge ranks third in shutouts (3.1) and fourth in GAA (1.13) and shutouts per game (0.26).

Scouting Idaho: Idaho is 3-10-1 overall and 0-1-1 in conference play going into this weekend. Their current wins include South Dakota, North Dakota State, and Utah Valley. Most recently, to open conference play, they suffered a 2-1 loss to Texas State  after holding a 1-0 lead through 80 minutes of play. Like the Redhawks, they also tied UTSA, 1-1, in 2OT. Senior Chelsea Small leads the Vandals with four goals, nine points, and 63 shots so far in 2012-13 and sophomore Katie Baran leads with four assists. In goal, senior Liz Boyden has made 14 appearances with 70 saves and three shutouts, and senior Caroline Towles has made one appearance. Peter Showler, in his eighth season, leads the team.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks traveled to Moscow to face the Vandals on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, coming away with the 1-0 win. Monique Escalera assisted Megan Daniels’ game-winning goal and goalkeeper Madison Goverde recorded her second consecutive shutout behind four saves. Seattle U is 4-0 versus Idaho over the last four seasons, but this is the first year that the match between the two teams will be a conference match.
