Redhawks Open Western Athletic Conference Schedule: After a tough non-conference schedule, including two straight games versus top 25 opponents, as well as two straight Pac-12 Network games, Seattle University women’s soccer (5-5-0) hits the road for their first Western Athletic Conference matches. The Redhawks will face the University of Texas-San Antonio on Friday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. before facing Texas State on Sunday, Sept. 30 at 11 a.m.

Leaders of the WAC: After six weeks of competition, as a team, the Redhawks rank third in points (43), goals (15), goals per game (1.5), assists (13), and assists per game (1.3), tied for third in shutouts (3), and fourth in fewest goals allowed (13) and lowest GAA (1.26). Individually, Stephanie Verdoia ranks tied for second in game-winning goals (2), fourth in shots per game (2.8) and tied for fifth in shots (28). Melissa Busque ranks third in points (11) and points per game (1.1) and fifth in goals per game (.4). Taylor Ritzman ranks second in points per game (1.12) and goals per game (.5). Ritzman and Busque are tied for third with most goals (4). Busque and Monique Escalera are tied for fifth in assists (3) and assists per game (.3). Brianna Smallidge ranks fifth in lowest GAA (1.28).
Scouting UTSA: Led by head coach Steve Ballard in his seventh season, UTSA is 1-7-0 going into conference play this weekend, after recording a win during their non-conference schedule over Eastern Michigan. Five different Roadrunners lead the team with one goal apiece, one of which is junior Maria Jose Rojas, who also leads with two assists and four points. Sophomore Liv Nyhegn has recorded a team-leading 18 shots. In goal, freshman Katarina Pus has recorded 46 saves in the starting spot and junior Ari Calderon has recorded two saves in one appearance. After opening conference play versus the Redhawks on Sept. 28, they will host Idaho on Sept. 30.

Conner has a link to the Pacific Northwest, as she is a 1992 graduate of Pacific Lutheran University. Sophomore Tori Hale leads the team with three goals, four assists, and 10 points this season and freshman Lynsey Curry, leads the team with 28 shots. Junior Natalie Gardini and freshman Caitlyn Rinehart have shared time in goal this season, each recording one shutout apiece. Gardini has also recorded 31 saves and Rinehart has recorded 10. The Bobcats have outshot their opponents, 148-120, so far in 2012. They will open conference play on Sept. 28, as they host Idaho, before the Redhawks come to town on Sept. 30.
