After three seasons as assistant women's basketball coach at Seattle University, Joy Hollingsworth will be leaving the coaching staff at the end of June to take a position with A PLUS Youth Program. The organization is based in the Seattle-area and specializes in youth development through academics and athletics. A PLUS stands for Academics Preparation Leadership Unity Sports.
"I would like to thank Seattle University and the community for the bright smiles, uplifting energy, and rich Jesuit values that made the past three years of my life a true blessing," said Hollingsworth. "I'm thankful for Coach Bonvicini and the opportunities to have worked under her tutelage. I hope that in some small way, I have been able to contribute to the growth and maturity of this amazing program and the young women who embody it."
Hollingsworth was hired before the 2009-10 season, reuniting with her former collegiate coach, Joan Bonvicini. She has been a key part of the team's recent success, as well as their transition back to Division I and has worked primarily with point and shooting guards while at Seattle U. Before joining the Redhawks, she was an assistant coach at her alma mater, Seattle Preparatory School, and was inducted into the Seattle Prep Hall of Fame in the fall of 2010. During her collegiate career, she played both at the University of San Francisco and the University of Arizona, where she was coached by Bonvicini.
"I want to thank Joy for her loyal service to me, our basketball program and to Seattle University," said Bonvicini. "She has been an instrumental part of our growth and success the past three years and we wish her all the best on her new opportunity."
A national search will begin immediately to replace Hollingsworth.
