Seattle University head women's basketball coach Joan Bonvicini has announced that Shelby Dougherty, a 5-9 point guard from Troy HS in Fullerton, Calif., has committed to attending Seattle U and will join the women's basketball program beginning in the 2012-13 school year.

Dougherty is a four-year varsity letter winner at Troy High School, where she has helped lead her team to an undefeated League Championship season all four years (40-0 record during her time there). The team currently holds the active state record in California for most consecutive league wins (160). The Troy Warriors made the CIF-IA playoffs all four years during her high school career and were the 2011 CIF Finalists. They also made the CIF-IAA State playoffs three of her four years and went as far as the Regional semifinals.

Individually, she has been a two-year team captain, team MVP, team Most Offensive Player, First-Team All-League, All CIF-SS Division 1A First Team, and North/South All Star. Dougherty was also named Most Outstanding Player at the Crescent Bank Holiday Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C., as well as the MVP at the West Coast Holiday Classic.

Outside of basketball, Dougherty has been a member of the National Charity League, a mother and daughter philanthropic and charity organization, for six years and has put in over 300 charitable and philanthropic/community service hours. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the American Cancer Society Club at Troy High School.

"Shelby is an outstanding addition to our team," said Bonvicini. "She has excellent size at the point guard position and is one of the best passers I've ever seen coming out of high school. She has had an outstanding career at Troy High School and we are excited to have her join our Redhawk family."
