McCleary Moves into Top 20 as Women's Golf Ends Cowgirl Classic

Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) climbed into the top 20 of the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic Wednesday as the Seattle University women's golf team completed play at the three-day tournament held at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.

McCleary ended the 128-player tournament with a final round of 75 (+3), giving her a three-day total of 225 (+8). The senior finishes in a tie for 16th place, her fifth top 20 finish of the year.

Next for SU was Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) with an overall score of 232 (+16). Pearson carded an eight-over 80 Wednesday and ended the tournament tied for 53rd with four other players.

The final three Redhawks finished the tournament within five strokes of each other. Shannon Quinn (Shoreline, Wash.) ended the tournament at 238 (+22) after carding 8 (+10) Friday. Two strokes behind Quinn, Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) finished with an overall tally of 240 (+24). Gaddie fired 78 (+6) during the third round, her best performance of the tournament. Monica Keo closes out the Redhawks' roster with a 241 (+25) for the tournament.

As a team, Seattle U tallied an overall score of 928 (+64) for the tournament, placing 16th. Iowa held on for the team championship at 884 (+20), while Brianna Espinoza of Colorado State took the individual title by firing 208 (-8) over the three days.

The Redhawks end their season at the West Coast Conference Championships starting Monday, April 16 at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister, Calif. The conference championship tournament will be Seattle U's final tournament as a member of the WCC as they and 16 other SU sports join the Western Athletic Conference July 1, 2012.
