Monica Keo shot a two-over 74 while Caitlin McCleary carded an even-par 72 to lead the Redhawks into a tie for fifth.

The Seattle University women's golf team opened play at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic Monday, ending the first round in a tie for fifth at Ocotillo Golf Resort in Chandler, Ariz.

Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) led the way for the Redhawks and is currently tied for sixth individually after an opening round 72 (E). She made four bogeys on the day, but countered them with four birdies to end the round at even par.

Monica Keo (Oahu, Hawaii) spent much of the day at par or better, but took three extra strokes over the last three holes to finish at 74 (+2). Keo currently sits in a tie for 14th. One shot behind Keo is Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) who birdied two of her first three holes. Throughout the rest of the round, however, she carded five bogeys to put her at 75 (+3) and in a tie for 28th.

Next up for the Redhawks is Shannon Quinn, who shot 77 (+5) Monday. After making the turn at 37 (+1), she took four bogeys over her last nine holes to end in a tie for 52nd. Rounding out the Seattle U lineup is Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah), who carded an 81 (+9) on the round.

Overall, the Redhawks have a cumulative score of 298 (+10) and sit in a tie with Xavier in a tie for fifth place, nine strokes behind Iowa for the team lead. Kristi Cardwell of Iowa sits in first place individually with a score of 68 (-4).

Tee times for Tuesday's second round begin at 6:30 a.m. local time, again at Octotillo Golf Resort.
