The Seattle U women's tennis team evened its record to 12-12 on the year with a 5-2 victory over Portland State Saturday at the Seattle University Tennis Courts.

The match was decided at the fifth singles position, where Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) won in straight sets over Portland State's Marina Todd. Todd jumped out to a 0-3 game lead to begin the match, but Wurden came storming back to take the first set 6-4. Wurden only ceded one game in the second set to take the match victory 6-4, 6-1.

Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) continued her hot streak Saturday, winning her seventh consecutive individual match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over the Vikings' Ashley Spencer 6-1, 6-1 at number two singles. Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) won in straight sets as well, taking down PSU's Alexa McDonald in the top singles slot 6-2, 6-4, while Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) rounded out the Redhawks' singles victories with a 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 defeat of Nayanatara Vadali at number six singles.

The Redhawks lost two points in the singles competition, both of them in tough three-set matches. At number three singles, Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) fought back from a 1-4 deficit in the first set to to take a one-set advantage. She lost the next two to opponent Marti Pellicano, however, to fall 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. At number four singles, Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) hung tough with Portland State's Megan Govi but fell in three sets 1-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Seattle U swept the doubles matches to begin the day. The first doubles team of Schwab and Wurden lead the way with an 8-2 victory over PSU's Mcdonald and Spencer while Newman and Lambert won 8-3 at number three doubles. Weissmann and Lucas finished the sweep with an 8-4 win over the Vikings' duo of Govi and Todd to take the doubles point.

The Redhawks look to clinch a winning regular season record next Sunday, April 15 with a 9:15 a.m. showdown with Northern Arizona at the Sammamish Club. That will be their final home match of the year, as they end the season in Edinburg Texas at the Great West Conference Tournament April 20-23.
