The Seattle University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will hold its seventh annual “Swishes for Wishes” student versus faculty/staff basketball game to benefit the Alaska and Washington chapters of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The game will take place on Tuesday, Apr. 10 in the Connolly Center North Court and tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Donations will be collected at the door, with a suggested $3 donation. Last year, the event raised close to $2000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

This year, Seattle U Executive Vice President, Dr. Tim Leary, will coach the faculty/staff team and ASSU president, Katie Wieliczkiewicz, will coach the student team.

Leading up to the game, there is a “Penny War” taking place this week, and collection jars can be found on residence hall front desks. The goal of the “Penny Wars” is to collect the most pennies, with each penny worth one point, and all dollars and other coins counting as negative points. Competition is encouraged by putting “non-pennies” into rival jars. The jar with the most points at the end of the week wins a pizza party and will be announced at the “Swishes for Wishes” game. All money from the jars will also be donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has granted the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

The SAAC was created to encourage student-athlete involvement in campus and community projects. This event has become one of the major projects that SAAC members focus on and look forward to each year.
