Day 1 - Friday March 30th

Hello Redhawk Nation! We are here in downtown Denver, CO finally relaxing after a busy day. Just when we felt like we were going to have a nice relaxing vacation exploring downtown in the sun, we realized it was time to get ready for the main reason we are on this trip- the “So You Want To Be A Coach” program.

We checked in this afternoon and got our daily schedules. We soon realized the trip would be very similar to an in-season road trip with Coach B. Very organized and filled days with little down time! That’s okay though because we are very excited to be here and have the opportunity to learn from the best coaches in the country.

The program started with introductions of all 50 participants from all over the country- there is a very wide range of universities represented and it will be great to get to know more about these girls. We love friends!

We had the opportunity to hear from four guest speakers throughout the afternoon, all of which had great messages and stories. They covered topics such as what it is like to be an assistant coach, how to balance work and social life, the benefits of positive coaching, and ended with a speech on the opportunities to work in athletic administration.

One highlight of the speeches was from a coach who has spent most of her time in the South at various universities. She was describing when she got offered a job in Oregon and had no idea where it was and thought the Pacific Northwest was some far away land that she knew nothing about. She continued to say that it was so far she might as well be working in Alaska or Canada; which just happen to be our homelands!

We are ending the night with some relaxation and some ESPN! We have a full day tomorrow beginning with breakfast at 6:30. Remember what we said before, this isn’t vacation, more like a business trip with Coach B. Early mornings!! Goodnight from Denver!
