The Seattle University athletics department will be sponsoring the third annual Tribute Dinner Friday, March 30, at the Campion Tower Ballroom on campus, starting with a reception and silent auction at 5 p.m. and followed by the dinner program at 6:30 p.m.
This year, the dinner will honor Tom Gorman, a two-time All-American in tennis, and Orrin Vincent, one of the best golfers in Seattle U history. Each Seattle U team is expected to contribute items for auction, with proceeds from those auction items benefiting the program on whose behalf they were donated.
Gorman was the number one player on the Seattle U tennis team throughout his collegiate career, earning All-America honors twice. In 1965, Gorman won the Seattle city singles title and teamed with Steve Hopps to win the doubles championship as well. He helped the Seattle U tennis team finish eighth at the NCAA Tournament in 1968, and Seattle U earned a 68-15 (.819) dual match record during Gorman's four years. Professionally, Gorman was ranked as high as #10 in the world, and he served as U.S. Davis Cup captain.
Vincent played for Seattle U from 1963 to 1967, earning team MVP honors three straight seasons. In 1962, Vincent won the junior championship for both Washington and British Columbia, and he was a semifinalist at the 1963 Washington State Amateur Tournament. He finished his collegiate career with a stroke average of 71.9 and was a medalist in over 25 events, including a victory in the 1965 Inland Empire Tournament. Vincent founded OB Sports, a company that has built or remodeled over 80 golf course nationwide, including Washington National Golf Course in Auburn, Wash.
The cost to attend the Tribute Dinner and Silent Auction, including dinner and a complimentary drink, is $100 per person or $750 for a table of eight.
