The Seattle University women's tennis team finished their spring break trip to Las Vegas, Nev. on a high note with a 6-1 win over Idaho State Friday on the tennis courts at Bally's Resort.
The Redhawks started the match off with a sweep of the doubles contests. Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) and Nicole Nakaoka (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way in doubles, taking down Idaho State's duo of Rilee Moorhead and Marian Tangarife 8-1 in the second doubles position.
Right behind Newman and Nakaoka were Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.), who claimed an 8-2 victory over Rachel Ryan and Zamira Vasquez at number three doubles. Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) finished the sweep with an 8-5 victory over the ISU team of Laura Porras and Katharina Marsela.
The match moved onto the singles competition, where Seattle U took five of the six singles points. Newman played at number one singles for the first time this year and notched a 6-2, 6-1 win over the Bengals' Marsela.
Wurden won 6-2, 6-3 at the fourth position over Tangarife, while Lucas continued to take advantage of the home cooking, as she won another match in her home town with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Idaho State's Vasquez.
The Redhawks will return home for their final two dual matches of the year before advancing to the Great West conference tournament. They host Portland State Saturday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. and Northern Arizona April 15 at 9:15 a.m., both matches taking place at the Sammamish Club in Issaquah, Wash.
