Thanks to strong singles play, the Seattle University women's tennis team claimed a 6-1 victory over Great West conference foe North Dakota Thursday at the tennis courts at Bally's Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.

Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) used her home-court advantage well, leading the way for the Redhawks with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep in her singles match. At the number five position, she dispatched Lindsey Viegut without allowing Viegut a single game.

At number six singles, Nicole Nakaoka (Honolulu, Hawaii) continued her perfect record in singles matches with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mindy Lawrence.

Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) also posted a big singles victory, beating Megan Sween 6-1, 6-3 at number four singles. Also claiming victories for the Redhawks were Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) and Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.).

The Redhawks also won the doubles point, as Katrina Schwab (Spokane) and Wurden won their doubles match 8-1 at the second position, and Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) teamed up with Lucas to win 8-3 in the third doubles spot.

The Redhawks, 10-12 on the year, end their Vegas vacation Friday with a 3:00 p.m. contest with Idaho State, again at Bally's Resort. This will be the second time SU and Idaho State have played each other, the other resulting in a 9-0 Redhawks victory on Feb. 5.
