The Seattle University women's tennis team continued their spring break Wednesday, dropping a 5-2 decision to Drake University at the tennis courts in Bally's Resort in Las Vegas, Nev.
Nicole Nakaoka (Honolulu, Hawaii) lead the way for the Redhawks, claiming a two-set victory in the sixth singles position. She took down Drake's Amanda Aragon 6-3 in the first set, then finished the match with a 6-1 second set to claim a point for Seattle U.
Also earning victory for SU was Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) at number two singles. She gave the Bulldogs' Gabriela Demos the first set, but won the next two for a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3 decision and a second point for the Redhawks.
Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) hung tough in her first set against Nell Boyd at number four singles, but fell in an extra game 7-5. She then lost the second set 6-1 to give Boyd the victory.
Another close match came in the number three doubles contest, where Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) went to a tiebreak with Drake's duo of Boyd and Amanda Aragon. Weissmann and Lucas hung tough, but fell in the tiebreak 10-8 for an 8-7(10-8) loss.
The Redhawks have two more matches left in Las Vegas, the next one coming Thursday, March 22 with a 6:00 contest with Great West division rival North Dakota. That match will also take place at Bally's Resort.
