Seattle University senior forwards Aaron Broussard (Federal Way, Wash.) and Eric Wallace (Winston-Salem, N.C.) have been selected to the 2012 Division I Men's Basketball All-Independent Team by the head coaches and sports information directors of the three independent schools: CSU Bakersfield, Longwood, and Seattle University.
Broussard, picking up All-Independent recognition from the coaches and SIDs for the second straight season, led Seattle U in scoring with 18.2 points per game, currently 40th in Division I in scoring average. He finished his Seattle U career 13th on the all-time scoring list with 1,455 career points as well as second on the school's all-time steals list with 161 career steals. Broussard started all 27 games for the Redhawks this season, shooting 46.7 percent from the field and 71.8 percent from the free throw line, plus he pulled down 6.5 rebounds per contest.
Wallace returned to action after missing the entire 2010-11 season at DePaul with a leg injury and started every game for Seattle U this season, averaging 9.4 points per game. He led the team in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game and also blocked 41 shots, tied for the fourth-most in a single season by a Seattle U player. Wallace scored in double figures 10 times during the season and notched three double-doubles, including a 17-point, 15-rebound performance in the season finale against Portland State.
Broussard and Wallace are joined on the 2012 All-Independent Team by Antwan Carter and Tristan Carey of Longwood and Stephon Carter and Donald Johnson of CSU Bakersfield.
Seattle University won nine of its last 12 games, including eight in a row at KeyArena, to finish the 2011-12 season with a 12-15 overall record. The Redhawks will join the Western Athletic Conference beginning next season and will be eligible for the conference championship.
