The Seattle University women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision Saturday to Utah State at the Logan Sports Academy and Racquet Club in Logan, Utah.
The lone Redhawk point came from the sixth singles decision, where Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) took on Julie Tukuafu of Utah State. Wurden took the first set 6-1, but lost the second set 6-7 to force a super tiebreak for the match. Wurden took the tiebreak 10-2 for her sixth singles win of the season.
Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash) and Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) both put up good fights before falling to their respective opponents. Newman took on Kristina Voytsekhovich in no. three singles, but lost 6-4, 6-3, while Weissmann played Romina Nedakovic in the fourth singles position. Weissmann fell 6-3, 6-4.
The Aggies swept the doubles point, winning all three doubles contests. The closest doubles match came at number three doubles where Weissmann and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) battled hard but fell 8-6 to USU's duo of Watts and Rowland.
The Redhawks have a week off before their first home matches of the spring. They take on Air Force at the Amy Yee Tennis Center in Seattle, Wash., Friday, March 16 at 3:00 p.m. They continue the home stand two days later against Eastern Washington 9:15 a.m. at the Sammamish Club in Issaquah, Wash.
