Sweeping the doubles sets proved to be extremely important for the Seattle University women's tennis team, as the Redhawks were able to win just enough singles points for a 4-3 victory over Weber State Friday afternoon.

The tandem of sophomores Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned key victories in both doubles and singles. First, in number three doubles, Weissmann and Lucas defeated Carly Lloyd and Thais Kurer, 8-6. In number four singles, Weissmann defeated Nittaya Phonharath in straight sets (6-1, 6-2), while Lucas earned a hard-fought straight-set victory over Kurer in number six singles (6-4, 7-5).

Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) was the other double-winner for the Redhawks, first teaming with Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) in defeating Michelle Warwick and Phonharath at number two doubles, 8-4. Newman then breezed past Warwick at number three singles, winning the match without losing a single game (6-0, 6-0).

Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) completed the Redhawk sweep in doubles, defeating Brittiny Moore and Ashley Tanner at number one doubles, 8-6. In number two singles, Schwab took Tanner to three sets before losing (6-0, 3-6, 6-2).

Seattle University (8-8) will finish the weekend with a match in Logan, Utah, against future WAC foe Utah State beginning at 10 a.m. local time (9 a.m. Pacific time).
