Senior guard Talisa Rhea (Juneau, Alaska) has been named Independent Women's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness for her outstanding performance in Seattle U's 70-41 victory at home over the Utah Valley University Wolverines.

"Talisa's role on our team is like a conductor with their orchestra," said head coach Joan Bonvicini.  "She is the consummate leader."

Rhea led the Redhawks with 19 points and six rebounds versus the Wolverines, shooting 8-for-16 from the field, including 2-for-8 from behind the three-point line.  Rhea also led the team with five assists and added two steals.

Rhea has started all 24 games for the Redhawks thus far in 2011-12 and leads the team in scoring (14.0 ppg), assists (131), and total points (336).  She also currently ranks 21st in the country in assists per game (5.5).

This is Rhea's third such honor on the year, also receiving the honor on Dec. 12 and Dec. 19.  As a team, this is the eighth time the women's basketball team has received the honor this season, as Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) has been recognized four times on Nov. 28, Dec. 5, Jan. 3, and Feb. 6, and Sylvia Shephard (Alta Loma, Calif.) was honored on Feb. 13.

Seattle University (15-9) heads to Chicago on Wednesday, Feb. 22 to take on Chicago State, beginning at 5 p.m., before returning home on Sunday, Feb. 26 to face UC Riverside at 2 p.m.
