The Seattle University women's tennis team ended the weekend Sunday with a dominating 9-0 victory over Puget Sound at the UPS Tennis Pavilion in Tacoma, Wash.
The Redhawks excelled up and down the lineup, taking every set from the Loggers. Both Alexandra Farrar (La Quinta, Calif.) and Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) swept their respective opponents with straight 6-0, 6-0 victories. Farrar dispatched Puget Sound's Maddie Thiesse at number one singles, while Newman took down the Loggers' Jenna Gerdson.
Three players made season debuts Sunday. At number six singles, Natalie Martin (Phoenix, Ariz.) saw faced Ada Yu of Puget Sound and easily prevailed over Yu 6-1, 6-2 in her first match of the spring.
Aya Sugimoto (Poulsbo, Wash.) also saw her first action of the spring in singles action. She dispatched Josephine Dow 6-2, 6-4 in the fifth singles position.
At number three doubles, Mikaela Peterson (Spokane, Wash.) played for first time this year. She paired up with Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) to bring down the Loggers' duo of Thiesse and Yu 8-0.
Nicole Nakaoka (Honolulu, Hawaii) played a rare singles match. She dispatched Marissa Friedman of Puget Sound 6-1, 6-0 in just her second singles contest of the spring.
After playing each of the last four weekends, the Seattle U women's tennis team (7-8) gets a much-deserved weekend off Feb. 24-27. The Redhawks are back at it March 2, however, with a 2:00 p.m. match at Weber State in Ogden, Utah.
