The spring season for the Seattle University women’s golf team did not get off to a great start, as the Redhawks find themselves in 10th place after the first round of the Folino Invitational Sunday, hosted by Cal State Fullerton at the Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms.

Lori Pearson (Seattle, Wash.) shot the best score for the team, finishing with a score of 79 (+8) to end the day in a tie for 26th place. Christine Cook (Yakima, Wash.) is one stroke behind with an 80 (+9) to finish the round in a tie for 31st place, while Caitlin McCleary (The Dalles, Ore.) is in a tie for 36th place after shooting 81 (+10) in the first round. Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) and Monica Keo (Oahu, Hawaii) each shot 86 (+15) to end the day in a tie for 56th place.

As a team, Seattle University posted a cumulative score of 326 (+42) to put it in 10th place after the first day, but the Redhawks are still close to many teams as almost everyone struggled with blustery conditions. Gonzaga leads the team competition after shooting 301 (+17) on the first day, led by Genavive Dodge’s opening round 73 (+2) that has her in first place in the individual standings.

Seattle U will look to improve on its standing as the second round of the Folino Invitational takes place Monday, Feb. 20, starting at 8 a.m.
