The Seattle U women's tennis team fell in a 7-0 loss to Oregon Friday at the Student Tennis Center in Eugene, Ore.
The match started with the doubles competition in which Oregon took all three matches. At number one singles, Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) hung tough with Oregon's Patricia Skowronski and Sofia Hager, but fell in the end 8-5.
Seattle U's second doubles pair, Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) and Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) lost 8-2 to Trudie du Toit and Julia Metzger, which gave Oregon the doubles point.
In the singles competition, Oregon continued to dominate the Redhawks. The best chance for a Seattle U point came at number three singles where Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) faced off against Rabea Stueckemann of the Ducks. Lucas dropped her first set 6-0, but fought back in the second. She and Stueckemann traded games in the second set and eventually found themselves tied at 6-all in the set, forcing a tiebreak. Lucas lost the tiebreaker 7-4, however, and fell in the match 6-0, 7-6(7-4).
At number three singles, Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) faced the Ducks' Hager. Weissmann played better in the second set after a 6-0 first set, but ended up giving the match to Hager 6-0, 6-3.
The dual-clinching point came for Oregon in the first singles match between SU's Schwab and Oregon's Metzger. Metzger quickly dispatched Schwab 6-1, 6-0 to win the match for the Ducks.
The Redhawks play one more match in Eugene this weekend, taking on Nevada Saturday, Feb. 18 at 9:00 a.m. at the Student Tennis Center.
