The Seattle University men's swim team stayed consistent through the second day of the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday, held at East Los Angeles College.
Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.) set a new school record in the 500 freestyle, first in the preliminaries with a time of 4:32.06 to qualify for the "B" final. In that race, he finished second with a time of 4:31.14, posting a 10th place finish overall to give the Redhawks seven points.
In the men's 200 individual medley, Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.) qualified for the "B" final with a preliminary time of 1:51.63. He also improved in the evening finals, finishing in a time of 1:51.12 to touch the wall fourth in the race for a 12th place finish overall and five points for Seattle U.
Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.) posted the fastest time in the preliminaries of the 50 freestyle, flying through the course in 20.15 seconds. His time in the finals of 20.42 seconds was good enough for fourth place overall and 15 points, while Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.) posted times of 20.80 seconds in the preliminaries and 20.76 seconds in the finals for a 13th place finish overall and four points.
The quartet of Wertz, Chris Lynch (Melbourne, Australia), Longbotham, and Anderson finished sixth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:19.69. The 26 points earned in that event improved Seattle U's total to 105 points and a sixth place standing after two days. Wyoming leads the way with 243 points, followed by BYU with 213 points and UNLV with 208 points.
The third day of the championships Friday will feature the 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, and 200 freestyle relay.
