The Seattle University women's tennis team ended their weekend with a 5-2 loss to Montana Sunday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore.
The Redhawks' two points both came from singles play. At number five singles, Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) claimed a straight-set victory over Montana's Precious Gbadamosi 6-2, 6-2 for her second singles victory of the spring and a point for Seattle U.
Seattle U's other point came from Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) in the third singles position. Newman wasted no time in starting another streak of singles victories with a 7-6(7-5), 6-1 win over Sasha Carter of the Grizzlies. Newman saw her previous run of six straight singles wins snapped last night in a three-set thriller at the University of Portland.
Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) saw her singles winning streak come to an end Sunday, falling to Maddy Murray 6-4, 6-1. Lucas had previously won eight singles contests in a row, not having lost in solo competition since Jan. 27.
The Redhawks started the match in doubles competition, losing all three doubles contests and giving Montana the additional point. At number two doubles, Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and Corinne Wurden lost 8-5 to Montana's team of Carter and Murray. SU's first doubles pair of Newman and Lambert fell to Montana's Heather Davidson and Laurence Pelchat, also by a score of 8-5.
Next weekend the Redhawks (6-6) head down I-5 again, this time to Eugene, Ore. for a match Feb. 17 at Oregon at 1:00 p.m. and Feb. 18 against Nevada at 9:00 a.m. They play their first match in western Washington Sunday, Feb. 19 as they take on Puget Sound down in Tacoma, Wash. at 5:00 p.m.
