The Seattle University women's tennis team collected another road win Friday, spoiling Portland State's 2012 home opener with 5-2 over the Vikings at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash.
The Redhawks started the match off well, winning the doubles point and two of the three doubles matches. In the first doubles position, Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) and Lindsey Newman (Freeland, Wash.) took down PSU's top team of Marti Pellicano and Megan Govi 8-3 for their third doubles win of the year. At number two doubles, the team of Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) and Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) topped PSU's Audrey Farr and Marina Todd 8-4.
Seattle U carried momentum from winning the doubles point into the singles matches, four of which ended with Redhawk wins. At number one singles, Schwab again dispatched PSU's Farr, this time winning 6-0, 6-3 and earning a point for the Redhawks.
Two Seattle University players extended their singles winning streaks to seven matches against the Vikings. In the fifth position, Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) won her seventh in a row with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over the Vikings' Todd, while Newman took down Govi 6-1, 6-4 in the third singles position for Newman's seventh consecutive singles win as well.
At the sixth singles position, Wurden added a point for Seattle U by defeating Portland State's Nayanatara Vadali in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
The Redhawks (5-4) face another Portland-based school Saturday, Feb. 11, as they take on the University of Portland at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center in Portland, Ore., at 10:00 a.m.
